Exhibition: Embroiderers Guild Group ‘This Place’

  • Station Creative Workspace 54-58 Johnston Street Wagga Wagga, NSW, 2650 Australia (map)

Embroidered Wren by Margaret Biasio (Embroiderers Guild Group Member).

This Place brings together the work of the Embroiderers' Guild members, each responding in thread and textile to the locations that have shaped them. Through stitch, pattern and mark-making, this exhibition explores what it means to belong somewhere, whether that's a childhood home, a landscape carried in memory, or a place still being discovered.

A sense of place is the emotional thread that ties us to somewhere, the feeling of being connected to a location in a deep and meaningful way. It is shaped by geography, history, culture and personal experience; by the sights, sounds and smells that linger in memory, and by the stories we carry with us. Sense of place matters because it grounds us, it gives individuals and communities a sense of identity and belonging.

Drawing on traditions of slow and mindful making, each piece reflects a personal geography worked by hand, considered stitch by stitch, and rich with the textures of place.
